I've decided on a final day for my unsatisfying second job: February 12, 2009. I think I should celebrate that night haha.
Despite my relief, I feel like a failure since I'm giving up on helping these kids. I know that I am a good tutor because I've had such great success with my other tutees, but the kids at MLC are incorrigible and the effort I put into my work is not worth the benefits (erm... if there are any?)
I feel like it isn't normal for someone to want to quit a job where they're supposed to help kids, but when all your efforts are met with refusals and vacant stares, what can you do? There are a couple kids who have improved, but others need help from professionals who can deal with ADD, dyslexia, and other issues. I can identify the signs, but I definitely haven't learned about ways to cure them.
Anyway, I'm glad I can put all my focus on my other tutees.

ReplyDeletei so know what you mean. but you can only do so much with what you have. and as we've both probably experienced, you can only help those who want to be helped. sigh. kids.
